Well…here it is….me….all of me. Well statistically speaking this is me and what my body is composed of . I am laying it all out there for all of you to see that this is the process that our body goes through no matter what physical shape we are in. Often, the process begins by saying we are going to make some big changes….most likely after stepping on the scale and being a bit frustrated with ourselves right? We will even make blanket statements like:
“I am going to go to the gym every day this week”
” I am going to eat only healthy foods and no snacks and sugar”
” I am going to cut all alcohol for a month”
We start a new routine that takes conscience effort and our hope is that we see results as soon as possible to validate the effort it takes and the sacrifices that seem so challenging. We stick to it for a few weeks and we start to feel like we are making some positive changes. We have a little more energy…we can start to see a little difference in our belly….we feel a little bit stronger. The momentum is feeling pretty good!! Maybe your clothes are even starting to fit a little bit better too. Then…you step on the scale again…if you haven’t already on a daily basis……and you see maybe a pound difference! A freaking pound after all of the hard work! This is where…many people then give up! Regardless of all of the other signs that were pointing toward positive change….the scale seems to be what holds the ultimate power and takes away our hopes and dreams….well…maybe not to that extent…but it seems like it at times. So…I am going to show you through this image what was actually happening and why you should not give up based on the one number on that scale you let hold all of the power!!
This is a picture of two InBody Composition scans that i have take almost 4 weeks apart. The one on the left is from December 28th, the one on the right is from January 24th. In the Muscle-Fat Anaylsis you see an arrow pointing down, a dash, and an arrow pointing up. This means for women my age and height this tells me what is below average, normal, and above average. That aside…..if you look at my weight you will see there is a pound difference in one month. That’s it! Let’s look at the other numbers though….under my weight is SMM…that is my skeletal muscle mass. This ultimately is the number that I care the most about. If this number increases it means I am getting stronger and healthier. I moved from 56.4 lbs to 57.5 lbs…awesome! As I get stronger and more muscle…guess what happens to my fat???? The last number is Body Fat Mass. I went from 33.1 lbs. to 30.7 lbs. in fat. In four weeks guys!!! The last number to look at is my PBF (percent body fat) I went from 24.8 % to 22.9%. I lost 2% body fat in one month! Even I have to admit I am pretty proud of that!
So…..I lost one pound in a month…..but what did I gain??? I gained more muscle mass and I lost 2 % body fat and I feel stronger, I have more energy, and I see some physical change.
MORAL OF THE STORY……DON’T PUT SO MUCH TRUST IN THAT ONE DAMN NUMBER YOU SEE ON THE SCALE! DON’T GIVE UP! TRUST THE PROCESS AND KEEP GOING! LET YOUR BODY TELL YOU AND SHOW YOU THE PROGRESS YOU ARE MAKING….NOT THE SCALE!
